Press Release

JAN 20, 2017 - Leading Edge Updates Help LCMS Facilitate Microlearning Requirements

The digital learning content management business solutions producer, eXact learning solutions, has announced its largest ever presence at a Learning Technologies event. Attracting over 7,500 visitors from around the world, this year’s show – which includes a conference, seminars and an exhibition – is being held in London’s Olympia on 1st and 2nd February 2017.

In addition to exhibiting at the event – on stand E1 – eXact learning solutions’ products will also be featured in one of the event’s seminars, entitled ‘Making Microlearning a reality without ever leaving your LCMS’. Taking place on 2nd February, in Theatre 2, from 12.30 to 13.00, the free-to-attend seminar is led by Bryan Eldridge, eXact learning solutions’ Director of Professional Services, North America.

“Microlearning – the learning strategy that focuses on delivering training and performance support in small, focused chunks – has been a concept for over 15 years but a key obstacle to its adoption has been confusion around how to manage it within a traditional learning management system (LMS) implementation,” explained Bryan. “Technology advances now mean that this confusion can be overcome – by using a modern learning content management system (LCMS).”

Bryan’s presentation includes:

  • Strategies for using organizational learning transformation initiatives to introduce microlearning
  • How to use common LCMS features to support role-based microlearning offerings
  • A pedagogical framework for disambiguating between learning modalities and content chunk sizes for learning offerings
  • A sample decision framework to determine what types of content can, or should, be delivered directly from the LCMS/Digital Repository
  • Cases showing how xAPI (‘Tin Can’) can play a role in maximising the value of microlearning

“Our biggest-ever presence at a Learning Technologies show enables us to display some new, really cool things – especially from a user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) perspective,” commented Valerio Torda, eXact learning solutions’ Managing Director.

“We’ll also be able to show visitors to our stand some of the improvements we’re making to our LCMS – notably to make navigation simpler and tasks quicker,” he added. “Our marketing focus groups tell us that the LCMS’s new, leading edge styling should prove popular – with visitors to our stand and with the LCMS’s users.”

SEP 13, 2016 - EXact Learning Solutions Adds A New Authoring Feature To Its LCMS

In September’s new release of its learning content management system (LCMS), global learning company, eXact learning solutions, is expanding users’ authoring options.

In particular, it’s introducing a companion to ‘HM’, its XML-based templates library for generating e-learning content. The new feature is called ‘Document Model’ (DM).

Valerio Torda, eXact learning solutions’ Managing Director, explained, “While HM is eXact learning solutions’ Content Model for developing pure e-learning – focusing on the standard ‘learn and test’ approach, DM will be key for those organizations that need to produce engaging material for instructor-led training (ILT)-based scenarios.

“DM enables users to create technical manuals, guides, advanced textbooks and so on,” he continued.

“While HM helps to build screens reading from left to right, DM’s approach is vertical – it’s like building a classic A4 document. It includes elements such as headings, paragraphs, references and so on – but, like HM, it allows users to insert media, images, videos and so on, into the learning material.”

Content created with DM can be delivered online, via eXact learning solutions’ native HTML5 output. Alternatively, it can be delivered in Word or PDF formats via eXact learning solutions’ rendering engines.

“In addition,” said Valerio Torda, “thanks to the system’s ingestion process, users will be able to create DM content starting from a pre-existing Word document. In this instance, the system will automatically map the Word structure and content into DM.

“Naturally, this innovation has full interoperability within the eXact LCMS – and its attendant Content Models. Consequently, users who use assets from within HM – such as a piece of text or an image – will, with one click, be able to reuse these assets within DM, too.”

To help explain the new technology involved in DM to users and potential users of its LCMS, eXact learning solutions is staging a webinar on 28th September. The webinar is the fourth of the company’s popular series, called ‘eXactly on Wednesdays’.

Federico Dondero, of eXact learning solutions, said: “This webinar will focus on DM, along with its rendering engines – notably Word, and PDF.

“Later – on 26th October – a further ‘eXactly on Wednesdays’ webinar will focus on ingestion processes for both HM and DM. In the case of HM, this involves translating PPT to HM and, for DM, the process will involve translating Word to DM.”

Those wanting to know more about DM and its rendering engines can begin by attending the webinar, being held on Wednesday 28th September at 17.00 to 17.45 CET (16.00 – 16.45 BST, 11.00 – 11.45 EDT and 08.00 – 08.45 PDT). SEP 06, 2016 - The DevLearn International Exhibition Receives Further Sponsorship From EXact Learning Solutions

Global learning company, eXact learning solutions, has become a Silver Sponsor for DevLearn 2016. This is the second consecutive year that the digital learning content management business solution provider has sponsored the event.

This year, DevLearn, which comprises the e-learning industry’s largest international exhibition, offers more than 250 learning activities spread across seven days that are designed to get delegates focused, engaged, and learning. The event takes place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV, from November 16 to 18, with pre-conference workshops taking place on November 14 and 15.

Valerio Torda, eXact learning solutions’ Managing Director, said, “Among the attractions at this year’s DevLearn is a seminar on ‘Unlocking the Value of your Organization’s Content via Digital & Learning Transformation’. Scheduled for Thursday, November 17 from 12.15 pm on the Strategic Solutions Stage, the seminar is being led by eXact learning solutions’ Senior Consultant, Bryan Eldridge.”

Based in Athens, GA, Bryan works with clients to gather requirements, deliver consulting services, and build stronger learning organizations. He focuses on helping large organizations manage every phase of their learning content life-cycle – content development, management, and delivery along with related content federation and content localization strategies.

Commenting on his seminar at DevLearn, Bryan said, “In the era of Big Data, organizations are struggling to gain and retain control over their vast – and rapidly growing – libraries of digital content.

“It seems that everyone’s talking about ‘Digital Transformation’ but no one is really addressing the ‘how’ in terms of what processes and tools they should be using. Furthermore, I believe that organizations are missing out on a huge opportunity if they don’t align their L&D vision with their Digital Transformation initiatives.

“Learning Transformation in this context is much more about learning enablement than traditional learning offerings,” Bryan continued. “Learning content can be assigned to collections of related digital content – for example IPR and technical publications – to create a direct connection between knowledge and organizational digital content in a manner that organizations simply haven’t been able to even consider in the past.”

In addition, eXact learning solutions will be demonstrating its leading edge learning content management system (LCMS) at DevLearn – in booth number 429.

As Europe’s leader in the LCMS sector, the eXact learning LCMS – an LCMS that allows for rapid content development through collaboration between subject matter experts (SMEs) and courseware designers, regardless of their location or specialization – has a number of high profile customers. In Britain alone these include Kaplan Publishing, Intuition, Tribal Group, Health Education England and Axelos, a joint venture, set up by the UK Government and Capita.

AUG 04, 2016 - EXact Learning Solutions Signs A Groundbreaking Escrow Agreement With NCC Group

Global learning company, eXact learning solutions, has signed an escrow agreement with NCC Group, a FTSE 250 listed global expert in cyber security and risk mitigation.

Valerio Torda, eXact learning solutions’ Managing Director, explained, “We value our customers and work hard to deliver software solutions which meet their key business requirements – as well as build strong relationships based on trust.

“We recognize our responsibility to help these customers ensure their business continuity through the long term performance and availability of our software,” he added. “That’s why we’re taking the groundbreaking step of working in partnership with the global information assurance provider, NCC Group, to offer our customers business continuity protection through this escrow agreement.

“Under the terms of the agreement, we’ve deposited the eXact learning Suite source code – including that for our flagship product the eXact learning content management system (LCMS) – within NCC Group’s secure facilities. This means that, from now on, we can offer this extra level of security to our customers – so that, in the extremely unlikely case of something happening to our software or company, our customers will always be able to utilize our software.”

NCC Group currently protects over 9,000 business critical software applications under comprehensive escrow agreements, on the behalf of licensees worldwide.

Under the terms of eXact learning solutions’ escrow agreement, the company supplies NCC Group with a copy of the source code for their customers’ applications. NCC Group holds this, securely, on the customer’s behalf. This source code is regularly updated to ensure that the source code held by NCC Group is always up-to-date and reflects the current version of the customer’s application.

“In the extremely unlikely event that eXact learning solutions becomes unable to meet its contractual obligations, NCC Group will release the source code to the customer, allowing that customer to maintain and correct its software without disruption to its operations,” Mr Torda stated.

About Escrow
The word ‘escrow’ derives from the Old French word escroue, meaning a scrap of paper or a scroll of parchment. This indicated the deed that a third party held until a transaction was completed. An escrow is:
• A contractual arrangement in which a third party receives and disburses money, documents or software for the primary transacting parties, with the disbursement dependent on conditions agreed to by the transacting parties, or
• An account established by a broker for holding funds on behalf of the broker’s principal or some other person until the consummation or termination of a transaction, or
• A trust account held in the borrower’s name to pay obligations such as property taxes and insurance premiums.
Source code escrow is the deposit of the source code of software with a third party escrow agent. Escrow is typically requested by a party licensing software (the licensee), to ensure maintenance of the software.

About NCC Group
NCC Group is a FTSE 250 listed global expert in cyber security and risk mitigation, working with businesses to protect their brand, value and reputation against the ever-evolving threat landscape. Headquartered in Manchester, UK, with more than 30 offices across the world, NCC Group employs more than 1,800 people and is a trusted advisor to 15,000 clients worldwide. Among other things, it offers a range of different escrow agreements.

JUL 07, 2016 - EXact Learning Solutions Reveals New Content Model Skins

The global learning company, eXact learning solutions, has recently updated the ‘HM’ content model associated with its learning content management system (LCMS).

Now in its third version, the content model – known as ‘HM’ – is intended to help users create engaging learning materials which are delivered online.

Fabrizio Giorgini, eXact learning solutions’ R&D Manager, said, “HM3.0 lets users choose and personalize each learning package’s ‘skin’. Indeed, we’ve introduced two new skins in addition to the standard – ‘classic’ – skin.

“There’s a business skin, for use with content that targets a corporate audience,” he added. “It includes all the tools present in eXact’s classic skin, including navigation, resources, glossary, help section and print.

“There’s also a ‘kids’ skin, which is appropriate for those – notably in the education sector – who create content for pupils and younger students. The skin incorporates commands in a control panel and can be used by learners ranging from toddlers to adults, scaling according to awareness and skills.”

In addition, HM3.0’s grid and panel allow users – with one click of a mouse – to modify the colours and any logo displayed on screen. HM operates seamlessly with the other products in eXact learning solutions’ suite – notably the eXact learning Packager authoring tool and its online counterpart, Online Editor.

To help explain this technology – along with other aspects of authoring on the eXact learning solutions’ platform – to users and potential users, the Italy-based eXact learning solutions is staging a webinar on 27th July. The webinar is another in the company’s summer series, called ‘eXactly on Wednesdays’.

Federico Dondero, of eXact learning solutions, said: “While the focus of the session is on HM 3.0, the webinar – eXactly on Wednesdays: HM 3.0 – will also explain some of the contemporary features of eXact learning solutions’ authoring tools and LCMS.”

Those wanting to know more about HM3.0 can attend the webinar, being held on Wednesday 27th July at 17.00 to 17.45 CET (16.00 – 16.45 BST, 11.00 – 11.45 EDT and 08.00 – 08.45 PDT). To register for this event, visit:

JUN 22, 2016 - Badging And Transitioning From E-Reading To E-Everything – A Look Into The Future Of E-Learning

Bryan Eldridge, Senior Business Consultant with the global learning company, eXact learning solutions, is speaking at EDULEARN16, in Spain, in July.

Looking critically into the future of e-learning, the titles of Bryan’s two sessions are: ‘E-learning 2.0: is your organization ready to transition from e-Reading to e-Everything?’ and ‘lessons learned for creating an organizational digital badging strategy’.

Bryan advocates that organizations develop a Model of Instruction (MOI) – the conceptual representation, via templates and activities, of an instructional strategy intended to effectively support a given learning outcome or competency within a specific context across both formal and formal contexts.

“An MOI approach provides a systematic strategy to ensure that the organizations’ overarching learning and training goals are integrated regardless of the components,” said Bryan. “It helps the organization to move from an ‘e-Reading’ to an ‘e-Everything’ model – and provides a framework for incorporating and supporting both formal and informal activities.”

Bryan’s second presentation focuses on the importance of badges within e-learning paths and processes.

EDULEARN, the eighth annual International Conference on Education and New Learning Technologies, is being held in Barcelona, Spain, from 4th to 6th July. Those unable to be present at EDULEARN to hear Bryan’s radical and forward-looking views on the future of online learning, can obtain a precis of his views by contacting eXact learning solutions.

EDULEARN is one of the largest international education conferences for lecturers, researchers, technologists and professionals from the educational sector. After eight years, it has become a reference event where more than 700 experts from 80 countries gather to present their projects and share their knowledge on teaching and learning methodologies, as well as educational innovations.

JUN 13, 2016 - New Webinar’s Series “EXactly On Wednesdays” Starts On June 29

The global learning company, eXact learning solutions, is releasing a new version of its learning content management system (LCMS). To help explain the new technology involved in M16 to users and potential users of its LCMS, eXact learning solutions is staging a webinar on 29th June. The webinar is the first of the company’s summer series, called ‘eXactly on Wednesdays’.

This new version – known as ‘M16’ – includes some major upgrades and brings important changes to the Project Management area of the platform. The new version of the LCMS includes fully interactive Gantt chart software, enabling project managers to manage a project directly from the dashboard – including assigning tasks, setting deadlines and so on.

M16 also features major updates to the LCMS’s Online Editor. These bring the Online Editor closer the company’s authoring tool, eXact learning Packager, by offering, among other things, full support for interactions, along with theme personalization.

eXact learning Packager offers users HTML5 templates to make creating screens and courses merely a matter of dragging and dropping raw assets (audio, images, video and so on) into a visual tree structure representing the template.

“M16 also offers users enhanced graphics, including a new set of icons for greater usability, as well as the relocation of some buttons and panels for easier navigation,” commented Fabrizio Giorgini, eXact learning solutions’ R&D Manager.

Federico Dondero, of eXact learning solutions, said: “While the focus of the session is on M16, the webinar – eXactly on Wednesdays: M16 – will also explain some of the contemporary features of eXact learning solutions’ authoring tools.”

In addition to having the company’s suite of learning technologies products on display at Learning Solutions (at Booth 104), eXact learning solutions’ senior consultant in the USA, Bryan Eldridge, will be running a conference session. Called ‘Badges of Honor: Ensuring Badges Are Meaningful’, the session runs for an hour from 10.45am on Thursday, March 17.

“Digital badging is gaining traction throughout the learning and development space,” said Bryan. “Yet, due to its relative novelty, there are some significant adoption barriers for those incorporating badging strategies.

“This session examines how to align strategies with evidence-based techniques and multi-tiered assessment approaches to produce badges that are worthwhile,” he added. “In particular, it will cover the common questions and concerns related to the credibility and general worth of badges.”

These include common badging adoption barriers and how to address them; the importance of understanding badge metadata and the role it plays in establishing value; how to incorporate diagnostic, formative, and evidence-based assessment techniques into the learning architecture for badge offerings, and how the role of the mentor or assessor can be implemented to maximize the effectiveness and value of badge offerings.

“In addition to Europe’s leading learning content management system (LCMS), the eXact learning solutions’ suite of products includes a professional template-based authoring environment, along with an app to manage, deliver and track learning content through iOS and Android-based mobile devices,” said Valerio Torda, eXact learning solutions’ CEO. “The eXact learning solutions’ end-to-end provisioning is complemented by a set of professional services including consulting, training and technical support in the field of Digital Learning Content Management.

“Visitors to Booth 104 at Learning Solutions will be able to discover all this for themselves,” he added.

According to Learning Solutions’ organizers, “Today’s training and development professionals are under increasing pressure to deliver innovative solutions on time and under budget. Learning Solutions 2016 is all about connecting with peers who are focused on sharing what works and exploring proven methods for leveraging technology in ways that enhance learning and performance in organizations.”

FEB 16, 2016 - Fosway Group Confirms EXact Learning Solutions Authoring Tool’s ‘Potential Leader’ Status

The latest edition of Fosway Group’s 9-Grid Report for Authoring Tools sees eXact learning solutions’ learning content management system (LCMS) improve its rating as a ‘Potential Leader’.

Now placed to the right of the top left quadrant of the latest 9-Grid Report – adjacent to the ‘Strategic Challenger’ category – the authoring tool is common to the eXact learning suite of products, produced by the Italy-based digital learning content management business solution provider, eXact learning solutions.

In addition to an LCMS, this suite of products includes a professional template-based authoring environment, comprising an advanced, local client application and a 100 percent web-based tool (eXact learning Packager and Online Editor) as well as an app to manage, deliver and track learning content through iOS and Android-based mobile devices (eXact learning Mobile). The eXact learning solutions’ end-to-end provisioning is completed by a set of high level professional services including consulting, training and technical support in the field of Digital Learning Content Management.

Valerio Torda, eXact learning solutions’ CEO, commented: “It’s good to see independent research – from Fosway Group, which was formerly known as Elearnity – continue to confirm the eXact learning authoring environment as a potential leader in its field.”

Among Europe’s leading independent talent and learning analysts, Fosway Group provides research, analysis and advice on learning innovation and technologies, in addition to publishing its 9-Grid Report.

The Fosway Group 9-Grid™ report for authoring tools is a multi-dimensional model that can be used to understand the relative position of solutions and providers in the UK/European authoring tool and learning content management market. It compares solutions according to five criteria:
• Potential – scope and sophistication
• Performance – market performance and customer performance
• Presence – historic and current presence in the market
• Total Cost of Ownership – the full cost of acquiring, implementing and operating the solution
• Future Trajectory – trends of the market related to a vendor’s performance and potential

According to the Fosway Group, “The overall market is still dominated by desktop authoring tools, with collaborative and LCMS tools in a distinct minority. Adoption of SaaS-based authoring solutions is generally the exception, rather than the rule.

“Authoring tool choices are frequently still dictated by instructional design features, rather than overall production efficiency and scalability. As a result, this is an area of learning technology that often doesn’t receive the strategic consideration it deserves.”

About the Fosway Group 9-Grid™
9-Grid™ is a five dimensional market analysis model that is used to understand the relative position of solutions and providers in the learning and talent systems market. 9-Grid™ has been in evolution since 2008 and is driven by demand for analysis and insight designed for European-based companies. Too often, organisations have had to rely on a US-centric view.

The Grid is based on Fosway’s independent research in the Next Generation HR and Learning markets over 18+ years, and with the insights and experience of its Corporate Research Network. This comprises over 150 leading global companies; typically enterprise-scale organisations with a large European presence.

A key difference of the 9-Grid™ to other analyst models, is that all of the nine zones have value and a set of actions to maximise that value. 9-Grid™ explicitly prompts conversations around the trade-off between customer performance, solution sophistication and total cost of ownership.

FEB 09, 2016 User Group Conference Reviews Successes And Looks To The Future

Users of Europe’s leading learning content management system (LCMS) met in London recently to discuss the latest developments and plans for the system and its related suite of products.

This latest in a series of regular User Group conferences, held at venues throughout Europe, began with Fabrizio Giorgini, head of R&D at Italy-based eXact learning solutions, explaining the developments in the eXact learning suite of products over the past year and then outlining eXact learning solutions’ plans for its products over the next year.

The User Group conference included presentations from eXact learning suite clients The British Council; the telecoms company, Telefónica UK; eLfH, which is part of NHS Health Education England, and the Ireland-based learning materials provider, Intuition.

In particular, Rich Brook and Asi DeGani, of Telefonica, outlined a project in which they were given just two and half weeks to produce a major online learning programme. Asi explained, “We knew we had three options: change the launch date; commission the work to be done externally, or handle it in-house.

“It wasn’t practical to delay the launch. Our preferred external supplier said that they would expect to charge £20,000 for the project but they wouldn’t undertake it because there was not enough time for them to complete it.

“This meant that we had to build it in-house, which we did – within the deadline – using the eXact learning LCMS. So, in other words, using the eXact learning LCMS had saved us £20,000 – and we met a key deadline which, otherwise, would not have been achievable. Moreover, we received praise for the high quality of the learning materials,” he added.

“In addition, the eXact suite is easier to use than ‘conventional’ authoring tools,” Rich commented.

Conference delegates also heard a presentation from Bryan Eldridge, a US-based senior consultant with eXact learning solutions, who, in looking to the future of the online learning technology industry, offered some suggestions for developing a Model of Instruction (MOI). An MOI is the conceptual representation, via templates and activities, of an instructional strategy intended to effectively support a given learning outcome or competency within a specific context across both formal and formal contexts.

“An MOI approach provides a systematic strategy to ensure that the organisations’ overarching learning and training goals are integrated regardless of the components,” said Bryan. “It helps the organisation to move from an ‘e-Reading’ to an ‘e-Everything’ model – and provides a framework for incorporating and supporting both formal and informal activities.”

JAN 27, 2016 - Learning Technologies Sees EXact Learning Solutions’ State-Of-The-Art Stand

Italy-based eXact learning solutions has announced its intention to bring a radical and innovative approach to the online learning technologies industry in 2016.

To illustrate this resolve, the digital learning content management business solutions producer is unveiling an eye-catching, avant garde stand design at this year’s Learning Technologies exhibition. The event, which also includes a conference, is being held in London’s Olympia on 3rd and 4th February 2016, and regularly attracts some 7,500 visitors from around the world.

According to eXact learning solutions’ Managing Director, Valerio Torda, its stand – D6 – at this year’s exhibition demonstrates the company’s innovative, creative spirit and its zeal to revolutionize the industry it serves.

He added, “There are significant signs that the online learning technologies industry is undergoing major change. L&D professionals are increasingly taking on the role of curators rather than custodians of learning, for example.

“To dedicated followers of L&D fashion, resources – not courses – are ‘in’ and prescription in what and how to learn is ‘out’. Convenience in accessing learning – as, when and how you prefer – is encouraged, while the costs of learning are kept keen, and change is acknowledged as a constant.

“In addition, gone are the days of L&D professionals tried to deliver training more efficiently to a wider audience. The key aim now is to find ways in which organizations can be empowered to improve the experience of their people,” he commented, adding “and this is precisely what our clients are using the eXact learning content management system (LCMS) to do.”

In particular, Telefónica UK, a global company which is known in the UK via the O2 brand, will be explaining how it is using the eXact learning LCMS to create a content ecosystem which is speeding-up learning materials production, cutting costs, and improving content quality – thus improving their learners’ experience.

Telefónica UK’s Asi DeGani and Richard Brook will be explaining this at a seminar, entitled ‘Beyond rapid authoring’. The seminar takes place on 4th February, in Theatre 1 on the floor of the exhibition, from 12.30 to 13.00.

“We hope that everyone will attend the Telefónica UK seminar,” said Valerio, “but, even if they don’t, a visit to our stand at the show will leave them in no doubt about eXact learning solutions’ radical, creative and particularly innovative approach to meeting the needs of today’s L&D professionals – and the organizations for which they work.”

JAN 20, 2016 - Learning Technologies Sees Further Developments From EXact Learning Solutions

The digital learning content management business solutions producer, eXact learning solutions, has announced its presence at the Learning Technologies event. Held in London’s Olympia on 3rd and 4th February 2016, the show, which includes a conference and exhibition, regularly attracts some 7,500 visitors from around the world.

In addition to the company’s presence at the event’s exhibition – on stand D6 – its products will also be involved in a seminar, entitled ‘Beyond rapid authoring’. Taking place on 4th February, in Theatre 1, from 12.30 to 13.00, the free-to-attend seminar will feature Asi DeGani and Richard Brook, from Telefónica UK – a global company which is known in the UK via the O2 brand.

Asi and Richard will be outlining Telefónica UK’s journey from rapid authoring to developing a professional, consistent L&D team. In particular, they will be explaining how eXact learning solutions’ technology enabled this journey – and is continuing to produce impressive results in terms of L&D productivity and learning effectiveness among learners.

“In an attempt to professionalise L&D and make things easier for the learner, Telefónica UK created a content ecosystem which put all of the stakeholders on the same platform,” said Asi DeGani, Telefónica UK’s Head of Digital Learning. “This is simultaneously speeding-up production, cutting costs and improving content quality.”

“The advances in the eXact learning solutions’ suite of products – eXact learning LCMS, eXact learning Packager and eXact learning Mobile – on the company’s exhibition stand (D6) at the show this year will focus on their configurability, versatility and reusability,” said the company’s Managing Director, Valerio Torda.

This improved configurability, versatility and reusability is evidenced in users’ ability to import and use files, as well as generate apps or Android application packages (APKs) and upload these to mobile stores. There is also the ability to track xAPI-based statements on any pre-configured learning record system (LRS).

Valerio Torda commented, “We’re looking forward to welcoming visitors to our stand at the Learning Technologies show – especially those who will have attended the eXact learning solutions’ User Group conference, held in London on the day before the Learning Technologies event begins,” he added.

NOV 23, 2015 - Telefónica Ditches ‘Chocolate Box Approach’ To Learning In Favour Of The EXact Learning LCMS

Telecoms giant, Telefónica, has standardised its technology-delivered learning materials thanks to eXact learning solutions’ learning content management system (LCMS).

Early in 2014, Telefónica UK’s learning and development professionals realised that all the company’s learning materials’ authors were creating content using a variety of authoring tools. As Asi DeGani, Head of Digital Learning at Telefónica UK, commented, “We were getting an interesting collection of content that was highly ‘creative’ but there was no consistency – or brand guidelines – about these materials.

“This made online learning like a box of chocolates – users could get anything,” he added. “This posed a problem because users were spending more time trying to see how to use the learning materials than doing the learning.”

Moreover, Telefónica UK realised that learning materials were ‘siloed’ – on authors’ laptops – so it was often difficult to get to these when individual authors were away from their desk.

“We needed a unified approach to creating openly accessible learning content,” said Asi. “Having considered a number of options, we realised we needed a system that would always be online and available to our employees, partners and franchisees. In addition, we needed a system that used HTML5, rather than Flash, since so many of our learning materials are accessed from mobile devices.

“This indicated that we needed an LCMS solution,” he added.

“The popular choice – principally chosen because of its highly responsive design functionalities – was the eXact learning LCMS, from the Italy-based digital learning content management business solutions producer, eXact learning solutions,” said Asi.

Having migrated its learning materials to the eXact learning LCMS, Telefónica UK now has thousands of learning objects on the system – many hundreds of which are accessed daily by the company’s 7,500 employees, along with its 15,000 partners and franchisees.

Since Telefónica UK’s 25 content creators started using the eXact learning LCMS less than a year ago, their productivity has risen from some 1.5 ‘screens’ per day to between two and four screens per day – even though they are still on the ‘LCMS learning curve’, getting to grips with the product.

“We’re also receiving highly positive comments about the system from the content authors,” said Asi. “We’re certainly planning to continue using the LCMS and, maybe, will expand our use of it next year.”

“All the custom-built content produced by third party developers exists on the LCMS,” explained eXact learning solutions’ international sales manager, Federico Dondero. “So Telefónica – not the third party developers – now has the original files for these materials, and this makes it simpler and easier to update these materials, especially since they now exist in the Cloud.”

The LCMS brings homogeneity of approach and look-and-feel to Telefónica UK’s learning materials, and, since Telefónica UK owns a number of brands – in addition to O2 – the LCMS’s template-based approach allows learning materials to be given a particular ‘branding’.

NOV 16, 2015 - Intuition And Its 2m Customers Benefit From The EXact Learning LCMS

Knowledge management specialist, Intuition, is benefitting from using eXact learning solutions’ learning content management system (LCMS) to maintain and update its library of online content materials.

In the first 18 months after implementing the LCMS, Intuition’s team of subject matter experts (SMEs) and instructional designers – whose output serves a global audience of over 2m users – had built some 1,400 separate learning objects.

“Using the eXact learning LCMS has made our team more productive,” said Intuition’s Head of Advisory Services, Brian O’Malley. “In 1999, it took us one day to build one screen of learning content. By 2010 – before implementing the LCMS – we were able to build between 15 and 25 screens of learning content a day.

“Since adopting the LCMS and its related tools, it takes our team just five hours to build 50 screens of ‘all-new content’ from storyboard. Consider also that this content is output for a broad range of PC, tablet, and smartphone devices; it’s clear that the efficiency gains are compelling.”

This eXact learning solutions’ system allows for rapid content development through collaboration between SMEs and courseware designers, regardless of their location or specialization. Furthermore, being based on XML technology, the eXact learning LCMS is intended to facilitate the reusability of content chunks. It supports SCORM 1.2 and 2004, IMS, and xAPI (TinCan) standards – allowing for single source, multiple output publishing.

“Our technological innovations allow enterprises to improve their organizational performance and achieve significant reductions in business costs,” said eXact learning solutions’ international sales manager, Federico Dondero. “These empowered organizations can produce and manage standard, interoperable, and reusable learning content that can be delivered on various platforms and output peripherals, such as via the web or by means of mobile devices.”

OCT 20, 2015 - EXact Learning Solutions To Reveal Digital Learning Content Management Advances

The digital learning content management business solutions producer, eXact learning solutions, has announced its presence at next year’s Learning Technologies event. Held in London’s Olympia on 3rd and 4th February 2016, the show, which includes a conference and exhibition, regularly attracts over 7,000 visitors from around the world.

The advances in the eXact learning solutions’ suite of products – eXact learning LCMS, eXact learning Packager and eXact learning Mobile – in evidence on the company’s exhibition stand (D6) at the show will particularly illustrate their configurability, reusability and versatility.

Among other things, in addition to experiencing greater general GUI configurability within the LCMS, users can now import and use files from the MS Office suite. They can also generate an app or an Android application package (APK) for any learning object/course and upload it to mobile stores such as Google Play and Apple Store.

In addition, there is now an XML-based templates library which enables xAPI-based statements to be tracked on any pre-configured learning record system (LRS).

The third part of the eXact learning solutions’ suite of products – eXact learning Mobile – provides an LMS platform for mobile devices. It consists of two “building blocks” – eXact Mobile Server (EMS) as well as mobile applications for iOS and Android-based devices, including a Windows 10 app.

Although integrated with the eXact learning LCMS, eXact learning Mobile can also be used, as an independent tool, with other systems. Valerio Torda, eXact learning solutions’ CEO, commented, “With this new generation app, users can download learning materials to their mobile devices and work on them offline wherever they are, thanks to – among other things – tracking data and a synchronization process that enables automatic alignment between client apps and the LMS that hosts learners’ performance data.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming visitors to our stand at the Learning Technologies show – especially members of the eXact learning club,” he added.

Launched in July this year and intended for users of its suite of products, this club provides a means of direct communication to enable the products’ developers to gain valuable user feedback. In return, members have privileged access to tutorials, guides, “how-to” videos, news and case studies related to the eXact learning suite of products.

SEP 16, 2015 - EXact Learning Solutions’ User Group Gains Insights Into LCMS Advances

Users of the eXact learning solutions’ suite of digital learning content management business solutions met in Rome recently. There, they discussed the latest product features and gained an insight into forthcoming advances in the eXact learning solutions’ suite of products: eXact learning LCMS, eXact learning Packager and eXact learning Mobile.
For the first time in its 15 years’ experience of the learning content management system (LCMS) market, eXact learning solutions expects its annual turnover in 2014/15 to show a 100 percent increase over the previous year’s figure. Moreover, the company’s healthy state of sales also reflects its significant on-going investment in product development.

Among eXact learning solutions’ recent innovations – including opening an office in Washington DC to service its growing market in North America and launching new versions of its suite of products – is its launch, in July, of the eXact learning club. Intended for users of its suite of products, the club provides a means of direct communication to enable the eXact learning solutions’ products’ developers to gain valuable user feedback.

Indeed, Gianluca Rolandelli, eXact learning solutions’ Professional Services Manager, commented that this feedback had already led to refinements in the latest versions of the eXact learning suite of products. In addition, club members will have privileged access to tutorials, guides, “how-to” videos, news and case studies related to the eXact learning suite of products.

The latest LCMS version – known as ‘M14’ – incorporates, among other things, greater general GUI configurability.

When it comes to authoring learning materials, the eXact learning Packager tool – along with the Online Editor embedded in the LCMS M14 – includes a new, unified text editor for all eXact authoring environments. This includes a spell checker, Formula syntax support and the ability to copy and paste text from Word documents.

In addition, with the new version of the XML-based templates library, ‘HM2.5’, not only can any xAPI-based statement be tracked on any pre-configured learning record system (LRS) but authors can now edit text directly in the unified, unique, “what you see is what you get” (WYSIWYG) editor – rather than, as previously, via a pop-up window.

The third part of the eXact learning solutions’ suite of products – eXact learning Mobile – makes an LMS platform portable on mobile devices.

It consists of two “building blocks” – eXact Mobile Server (EMS) as well as brand new mobile applications for iOS and Android-based devices. Integrated with the eXact learning LCMS, eXact learning Mobile can also be used, as an independent tool, with other systems.

With this new generation app, users can download their learning materials to their mobile devices and work on them offline wherever they are, thanks to – among other things – tracking data and a synchronization process that enables automatic alignment between client apps and the LMS that hosts learner’s performance data.

Moreover, we believe that we provide a valid high-tech alternative to those of our US-based LCMS competitors.

“The campaign starts at the e-learning industry’s largest annual international exhibition – DevLearn, taking place in Las Vegas from September 30 to October 2,” he added. “Not only is eXact learning solutions one of the sponsors at this year’s event but – in booth number 411 at the event – we’ll be unveiling a fundamentally redesigned mobile app for all main portable devices and platforms, including iOS, Android and Windows.

“Other initiatives during the campaign include a series of Road Shows around the US, to allow more learning and development professionals to experience the user-friendly power and potential of the eXact learning LCMS and its related suite of products and services,” said Valerio.

Federico Dondero, eXact learning solutions’ Sales & Marketing Manager, added, “Our LCMS – now in its 14th version – allows for rapid content development through collaboration between subject matter experts (SMEs) and courseware designers, regardless of their location or specialization.

“Furthermore, we’ve redesigned our mobile app – eXact learning Mobile. Now able to run on all main portable devices and platforms, including iOS, Android and Windows, this offers users standards-based, single-source content management, delivery and tracking – helping organizations to improve their key business processes and their human resource capital.”
